CIRCLE DRIVE - CONCRETE REPLACEMENT

After 50 years of car and bus traffic, the main circle entrance for Oakland University is currently being rebuilt and will be open in time for Fall 2009 classes. New trees and shrubs are planned to enhance the campus entrance.

OAKLAND CENTER TO BEAR LAKE BOULEVARD

Ten foot wide concrete sidewalks have been added as well as a beautiful array of perennials and Hedge Maples.

TREES

Two-hundred and fifty new and indigenous species and have been introduced to preserve and enhance our University's natural surroundings. Most recently, two Franklin trees (extinct in the wild and one of the rarest and most fragrant trees in the world) were planted on campus. Eighty-nine trees are scheduled for planting during the coming year in addition to new irrigation at North Foundation Hall and at Vandenberg Hall.

One of Oakland University's two Franklin Trees (Franklinia), planted north of the John Dodge farmhouse. The Franklin Tree was discovered by William Bartram in 1775 who named it after his good friend, Benjamin Franklin. Additional information can be found at:
