The Research Excellence Fund (REF) was established to facilitate and accelerate the development and commercialization of advanced technologies stemming from the research activities of state-supported universities in Michigan. REF funds currently support 1) graduate students in the Biomedical Sciences PhD. program, 2) research programs of individual biomedical researchers, with the goal of providing seed money to generate preliminary data for future external grant proposals, and 3) shared instrumentation.
