| Erika Nakamura- Japan |
My name is Erika Nakamura. I’m an exchange student from Japan. I’m living in the apartment called International Village and there are many international students from various countries like Germany, France, China, and Japan. Studying abroad had been my dream so now I’m really glad to be here and experience many valuable things through my life especially in the International Village!
First, I could learn about other cultures through the International food night. At that party, exchange students serve their country’s food and give a presentation about their own culture. This party was really good for me because I learned about other cultures and sometimes notice that I have wrong information about another country. For Thanksgiving Day, American students made some traditional food. I was really glad to eat it because Japan doesn’t have Thanksgiving Day. Moreover, I’m looking forward to the next international food night because I’ll make Japanese food! I hope many people like it.
Second, living with Americans is also good for me to learn real American life. I’m living with two Americans. Of course, I can learn English from them. In addition, I can learn their eating habits, life style, and how to celebrate their holidays. For example, I made a ginger bread house with them. Though I’d never made it, I could make an awesome house thanks to my American roommates’ help. Moreover, on Halloween, we dressed up and had a good time. For Christmas, we decorated our room with a pink Christmas tree! Like this, I’m glad to experience real American culture and it’s really valuable for me.
Through my life in the International Village, I can learn about not only American culture but other cultures. I want to enjoy the rest of my school days and make many memories with my friends!
