1. Motion from the Steering Committee to approve the new General Education program. (Moved by Mr. Lepkowski, seconded by Ms. Moore)

MOVED that �A Proposal for the Renewal of General Education at Oakland University� from General Education Task Force II be accepted and that the new General Education program be approved.

Second reading: Debatable, amendable, and eligible for final vote.

Comment: Voting on this motion was deferred at the last meeting of the Senate to enable General Education Task Force II to incorporate the recommendations of various Senate committees into its report. The Task Force has now done so.

2. Motion from the Library to approve a revised constitution. (Moved by Ms. Didier, seconded by Mr. Lepkowski)

MOVED that the Senate recommend to the President and the Board of Trustees approval of the revised Constitution for the Library.

Second reading: Debatable and eligible for final vote. Senate protocol holds constitutions to be unamendable from the floor.

Comment: The Library faculty has revised the Constitution in light of the Senate discussion during the first reading of this motion. Article V, Section ii, now eliminates LCAP service during a year a person is up for tenure and/or promotion. Copies of the revised constitution are available as follows:

3. Motion from the Steering Committee recommending procedures for constructing academic calendars (Moved by Mr. Russell, seconded by Mr. Stamps)

MOVED that the University Senate recommends the following criteria be used when establishing calendars for fall semesters: (1) Fourteen weeks of classes for each class module; (2) Fall commencement held on the Saturday after final exams; (3) One or more study days between the end of classes and the start of finals; (4) New student convocation held on the day that classes start in the evening.

E. New Business

1. Motion from the Steering Committee to expand the membership of the General Education Committee. (Mr. Maines)

MOVED that the number of faculty members on the General Education Committee be increased from six to nine..

First reading: Debatable, amendable, but not eligible for final vote at this meeting

Comment: In anticipation of a heavy workload during the transition to a revised general education program, the General Education Committee has requested reinforcements. The revised text of the membership of the committee reads as follows:

Membership: Voting: nine faculty members, one of whom shall be chair, and one student; ex officio and non-voting: the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, a representative from the Advising Steering Committee, and the Registrar or designee.
