B.   Approval of the minutes of the February 15, 2001 meeting.

C.  Old Business.

1. Motion from the Senate Steering Committee to endorse the report of the International Students and Scholars Task Force  (Ms. Moore, Mr. Stamps)

MOVED that the Senate endorse the International Students and Scholars Task Force Report The Oakland International Imperative. 

Second  reading:     Debatable, amendable and  eligible for final vote.

1a.  Motion to include in the endorsement a provision that the role of foreign language be examined. (Mr. Brieger, Ms. Buffard-O'Shea)

  MOVED that the role of foreign language be examined as part of the endorsement.

Comment:  With this motion the Senate is asked to endorse the underlying goals and principles of the report of the International Students and Scholars Task Force. While it is clear that not all of the recommendations included in the report can be implemented immediately, the Senate endorsement will indicate the Senate's concurrence with the Task Force as to the importance and value  of  international  programs and students at Oakland.  If approved, implementation of selected recommendations will be undertaken by appropriate university offices and reports on actions taken will be reported back to the Senate.  The report along with responses is available here.

2. Motion from the Steering Committee to endorse the  Report of the Task Force on Research and Graduate Study. (Ms. Sieloff, Ms. Didier)

MOVED that the Senate endorse the Report of the Task Force on Research and Graduate Study.

Second  reading:  Debatable amendable, and eligible for final vote.

3.  Motion from the Graduate Council to recommend approval of a Master of Arts degree in Liberal Studies. (Mr. Andrews, Mr. Downing)

MOVED that the Senate recommend to the President and the Board approval of a program leading to a Master of Arts  in Liberal Studies.

Second  reading:  Debatable, amendable, and eligible for final vote.

Comment:   The proposal, related documents and  responses from the various Senate committees and the College are available here.

D.  New Business

1.  Motion from the Steering Committee to endorse the Physical Master Plan 2001-2020. (Mr. Coppin)

MOVED that the Senate endorse the Physical Master Plan 2001-2020.

First reading: Debatable, amendable but not eligible for final vote.

Comment:   With this motion the Senate is asked to endorse the general principles of the report of the Master Planning Committee, the  Physical Master Plan 2001-2020 here.  The Senate may also chose to not endorse the report or to endorse with specific concerns or conditions.  Because this document is to go to the Board of Trustees at their April 5, 2001 meeting a special Senate meeting may need to be called before that date  in order to provide for a second reading of this plan.   

2.  Motion from the Graduate Council to recommend approval of a  Master of Science Program In Embedded Systems (Mr. Andrews)

MOVED that the Senate recommend to the President and the Board approval of a program leading to a Master of Science in Embedded Systems.

First reading:  Debatable, amendable, but not eligible for final vote.

3.  Motion from the Graduate Council to recommend approval of a  Master of Science Program In Information Systems Engineering (Ms. Moore)

MOVED that the Senate recommend to the President and the Board approval of a program leading to a Master of Science  in Information Systems Engineering.

First reading:  Debatable, amendable, but not eligible for final vote.

4.   Motion from the Graduate Council to recommend approval of a  Master of Science in Information Technology Management (Ms. Moore)

MOVED that the Senate recommend to the President and the Board approval of a program leading to a Master of Science  in Information Technology Management.

First reading:  Debatable, amendable, but not eligible for final vote.

Comment:   The proposal is available here.

5.  Motion from the Graduate Council to recommend approval of a  Doctorate in Physical Therapy  and a Post-professional Doctorate of Science in Physical Therapy (Mr. Schwartz)

MOVED that the Senate recommend to the President and the Board approval of a program leading to a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and a Post-professional Doctorate of Science in Physical Therapy.

First reading:  Debatable, amendable, but not eligible for final vote.

6.  Motion from the Steering Committee to endorse the report of the Nursing and Health Sciences Task Force.  (Ms. Sieloff)
