1. Approval of the minutes of the April 10, 1997 meeting.

A. Motion from the Senate Planning Review Committee regarding public school academies (Mr. Dillon, Mr. Keane)
MOVED that the Senate recommend to the President and the Board that the public school academy listed below not be chartered:
1. Lucy Craft Laney Institute of Learning
Second reading: Debatable, amendable and eligible for a final vote at this meeting
Comment: The above motion was tabled at the April meeting of the Senate. Since the application for the academy has since been withdrawn, Mr. Dillon will seek the permission of the Senate to withdraw the motion.
IV. New Business.
A. Motion from the Steering Committee to elect individuals to Senate Standing Committees. (Mr. Andrews)
MOVED that the following individuals be elected to the Committees as indicated below for the terms specified:
Academic Conduct Committee
Addington Coppin (School of Business Administration) 1997-99
Arthur Bull (Chemistry Dept.) 1997-99
University Committee for Undergraduate Instruction
Fatma Mili (School of Engineering and Computer Science) 1997-2000
Senate Athletics Committee
Mohamed Zohdy (School of Engineering and Computer Science) 1997-2000
Craig Taylor (Chemistry Dept.) 1997-2000
Procedural motion: Debatable, amendable and eligible for final vote.
B. Motion from the Graduate Council concerning the MSN program (Mr. Goslin)
i. MOVED that the Senate recommend to the President and the Board of Trustees the approval of a Nurse Practitioner track in the Master of Science in Nursing program.
First reading: Debatable, amendable but not eligible for final vote.
ii. MOVED that the Senate recommend to the President and the Board of Trustees that the number of credits required for graduation in the Master of Science in Nursing-Adult Health track be changed from 36 to 45.
First reading: Debatable, amendable but not eligible for final vote.
Comment: Memos from the Senate Budget and Senate Planning Review Committees are included as are abstracts of the proposed changes. Complete copies of the proposals are available in the Office of Academic Affairs.
