A. OLD BUSINESS.
None
B. NEW BUSINESS.
1. Election of faculty nominees to be presented to the Presidential Search Advisory Committee ( Senate Elections Committee)
Comment: The Presidential Search Advisory Committee has requested that six faculty names be submitted to them as possible candidates for the Search Committee. They will chose two out of the six to serve on the Presidential Search Committee. The Senate Steering Committee is presenting a slate of 4 candidates for your consideration. The floor will be open for additional nominations. The Steering Committee asks that nominees be considered with regard to their experience with undergraduate and graduate education, research, outreach and FRPC service. If you wish to nominate someone, please consult with that person in advance and make sure they are willing to serve for the duration of the search, which will probably include the spring and summer months. All faculty, not just senators, will be eligible to vote for these nominees at this meeting.
The criteria suggested by the Board's Advisory Committee are: 1) individuals who have a good understanding of the university and the job of its president; 2) individuals who are a good judge of people; 3) individuals who will be good representatives for OU; 4) individuals who have reputations of sound judgment and fairness; 5) those who will be able to devote the time necessary to the search; 6) individuals who will assist in permitting a diverse search committee in terms of race, sex, academic discipline, organizational location; 7) those who are able to adhere to confidentiality in carrying out the Search Committee's charge.
The Steering Committee nominees are:
Jane Bingham, Professor of Education, (SEHS)
Augustin Fosu, Professor of Economics (SEA)
Mary Karasch, Professor of History (CAS)
Virinder Moudgil, Professor of Biological Sciences (CAS)
2. Motion from the University Committee on Undergraduate Instruction (Mr. Hough)
MOVED that students may transfer applicable community college credits at any time during their course of study. However, one-half of the credits required for the baccalaureate degree must be from 4-year institutions. 32 credits must be taken at Oakland University.
First reading, debatable, amendable but not eligible for final vote at this meeting.
Comment: Currently students who have earned 62 or more credits may not take classes at a community college and transfer them to Oakland University. The proposed change would allow them to transfer community college credits at any time. Attachment A is a memo from UCUI explaining the history and rationale for requesting this change. Also included is the report from the Senate Budget Review Committee which details possible financial implications. (Attachment B).
3. Motion from the School of Health Sciences (Mr. Olson)
MOVED that the University Senate recommend to the President and the Board of Trustees the approval of a Master of Science in Physical Therapy program.
First reading, debatable, amendable but not eligible for final vote at this meeting.
Comment: The formal proposal for the Master of Science in Physical Therapy is attached to the agenda. (Attachment C) The proposed degree should not be confused with the existing OU Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) degree. The existing masters program is an entry level program which prepares individuals for licensure in the profession. This proposal differs in that it will allow physical therapists in the field with entry level degrees to earn an advanced graduate degree in a specialty area of physical therapy. The proposal has been reviewed and is supported by the Planning and Budget Committees whose reports are also appended. (Attachments D & E)
