1. Motion from the Senate Planning Review Committee (Mr. Chipman,Mr. Downing)

MOVED that the Senate endorse the Oakland University Strategic Plan, 1995-2005 as Oakland University's governing planning document for the next decade.  It recommends that the President proceed with its implementation and encourages all members of the university community to assist in accomplishing its goals.

Second reading: Debatable, amendable and eligible for final vote at this meeting.

Comments: With this motion the Senate is asked to endorse the planning efforts begun during the winter semester of 1993. A clean, edited copy of the original preamble is attached to this agenda. Previously distributed materials included the edited version of the preamble with all changes indicated, the Detailed Strategic Plan and the May 1994 statement from the Senate Planning Review Committee. As is indicated in the current document and as would be inherent in the Senate's support of this motion, it is assumed that these tactics and recommendations will be given first priority as specific steps are developed to achieve the goals set for Oakland University over the next decade. As specific steps proceed to final implementation they would be subjected to traditional governmental and administrative review and approval procedures. In succeeding years, the Senate would be kept appraised of the implementation's progress and successes by the Senate Planning Review Committee.

1. Steering Committee Replacement Election (Senate Elections Committee)

Comment: A replacement is needed for Carol Zenas (Nursing) on the Senate Steering Committee. Members continuing to serve are Jane Eberwein (College), Linda Benson (College), Robbin Hough (SBA), Catherine Rush (AP) and Eleanor Reynolds (AP). As the Senate Constitution prohibits election of more than two Steering Committee members from any one organized faculty no nominations from the College of Arts and Sciences may be considered. The Steering Committee meets Tuesdays from 1-3 p-m- twice a mouth to set the Senate agenda, refer business to Senate Committees and receive reports from those bodies and advise the Vice President for Academic affairs on governance issues; it also meets occasionally during spring and summer. If you wish to nominate someone please establish in advance that the person is willing to serve.
