1.     Procedural motion from the Steering Committee to fill vacancies on Senate standing committees (Mr. Hough):

MOVED that the following persons be confirmed as elected to Senate committees for the terms specified:.

a.  ACADEMIC CONDUCT COMMITTEE

    Carl Vann, Professor of Health Sciences (1994-1995)

b.  GENERAL EDUCATION COMMITTEE

    Julian Gendell, Associate Professor of Chemistry, to replace Devadatta Kulkarni, Assistant Professor of Mathematical Sciences (1994-1995)

Procedural Motion: Debatable, amendable, and eligible for final vote at this meeting.

2 .Motion from the Senate Planning Review Committee  (Mr. Chipman)

MOVED that the Senate endorse the transfer of the Honors College from the College of Arts and Sciences to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

First Reading: Debatable, amendable but not eligible for final vote at this meeting.  

Commentary: This move would provide the opportunity for increased participation by the University community. A much wider group of both students and faculty could be involved in Honors College activities. A university-wide Honors College could also serve as an effective recruiting tool. Reports and recommendations prepared by Mr. Kevin Murphy, Mr. Curtis Chipman and Mr. Gary Russi are appended to this agenda.
