AGENDA

B. New Business

1.  Motion from the Steering Committee to staff certain Senate standing committees (Ms. Stamps).

a. MOVED that Beverly Geltner replace Robert Payne for a one-year term (1989-90) on the Academic Policy and Planning Committee.

b. MOVED that Chin Long Ko replace Jack Tsui for a two-year term (1989-91) on the Research Committee.

Procedural Motion: Debatable, amendable, and eligible for final vote at this meeting.

2 . Motion from the Steering Committee to augment the membership of the Academic Computing Committee (Mr. Pettengill)

MOVED that two additional seats, ex officio and voting, be established on the Academic Computing Committee:

a. The Executive Director of Computer and Information Services, and
b. The Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, or his designee.

First Reading: Eligible for discussion but not final vote at this meeting.

Comment: The Academic Computing Committee has asked to expand its roster by adding two persons who are playing key roles in computing systems development. The Executive Director of Computer and Information Services will continue to play such a role over an extended period. Since it is a commitment of the academic administration to continue the enhancement of computing capabilities, the second appointment will ensure a close involvement in ongoing needs assessments. It is the intent of the Provost, at the request of the committee, to appoint John Tower to this seat, should the motion be adopted by the Senate.

3.   Report from the Academic Policy and Planning Committee (Mr. Tracy).

The chairman of the APPC will update the Senate regarding the committee's calendar of planning activities for the current academic year.
