B.  New Business:

1. Motion from the General Education Committee to defer application of the new general education system for certain transfer students (Mr. Edgerton):

MOVED that item e. of the General Education motion passed by the Senate on 12 January 1984 be modified to read: "that students from Michigan community colleges who enroll there before the fall of 1984 and enroll at Oakland University before the fall of 1987 with more than 30 accepted transfer credits be allowed to choose to meet the earlier General Education requirement as presented in the 1984-85 Undergraduate Catalog. [new language underlined]

First Reading: , at this meeting. debatable, amendable, but not eligible for final vote

Comment: The original deadline for implementing the new General Education system for this group of transfer students was 1986, so that all incoming students would be following the same requirements as of September of this year. Delays in determining transfer course equivalencies for the new system prompt the General Education Committee to recommend this adjustment.

2 . Motion from the Steering Committee to replace members of certain standing committees (Ms. Chapman-Moore):

MOVED that the faculty nominated below be confirmed as appointed to committees and terms as specified:

a.  Academic Conduct Committee
    Subbaiah Perla to replace Steven Miller (Winter 1986)
    Kristine Salomon to replace Robert Goldstein (Winter 1986)
    Dean Purcell to replace Kristine Condic as alternate (Winter 1986)

b.  Academic Standing and Honors Committee
    Normal Kloosterman to replace Ron DeRoo (1986-87)

Procedural motion: Debatable, amendable and eligible for final vote.

C.  Good and Welfare:
            Private resolutions

D.  Information items:
        1.  Report of progress toward construction of the addition to Kresge Library.  (The news is good)
        2.  Accuracy in Academia--no news is good news.
