AGENDA

Respectfully submitted by Keith R. Kleckner for the Steering Committee.

A. Old Business:
    None.

B. New Business:
1. Motion from the Steering Committee to fill a vacancy on the General Education Committee (Ms. Hildebrand):

MOVED that Richard Burke be confirmed as appointed to the General Education Committee for the 1984-85 academic year replacing David Daniels.

Comment: Mr. Daniels has resigned from the General Education Committee after several years' valiant service in order to accept election to an even more time-consuming post on the Arts and Sciences CAP.

Procedural Motion: Debatable, amendable, and eligible for vote.

2. Resolution of thanks from the Steering Committee (Mr. Splete):

RESOLVED that the University Senate thank the members of the Commission on University Excellence for conducting a complex study of significant issues and for issuing a thoughtful report as the basis for further deliberation and legislative action and that this body particularly commend Professor Curt Chipman for his informative reports on Commission procedures and findings.

Procedural Motion: Debatable, amendable, and eligible for final vote at this meeting.

3. Discussion of Commission on University Excellence report.

Comment: Mr. Kleckner will report to the Senate on the Steering Committee's dissemination of CUE findings and recommendations to standing and ad hoc committees. An open forum will follow, allowing Senators to voice their responses to specific sections of the report and offer guidance to committees that will be preparing legislative proposals.

C. Good and Welfare:
    Private Resolutions.

D. Information Items:
1. The Steering Committee has heard a detailed report from Mr. Wilson regarding bookstore pricing and Oakland Center financing. Mr. Wilson is preparing a report to the Senate for its December meeting.

2. The Governor's Commission on the Future of Higher Education in Michigan has announced that its final report will be issued on December 13, 1984. To date there are no "leaks" concerning the content of this report.
