AGENDA

A. Old Business:

B. New Business:
1. Motion from the Steering Committee nominating certain faculty members to fill vacancies on Senate standing committees (Mr. Downing):
MOVED that the faculty nominated below be confirmed as appointed to committees and terms as specified:
a. Academic and Career Advising Committee
Elaine Chapman-Moore to replace Roberta Schwartz as chair (1984-85).
b. University Committee on Undergraduate Instruction
Carol Zenas to replace Penny Cass (1984-85).
Comment: Ms. Schwartz has resigned the chair of the Academic and Career Advising Committee while retaining her membership. In the absence of faculty members with sufficient experience to accept this leadership role. Senator Chapman-Moore has accepted the Steering Committee's invitation to chair this body of which she is an ex officio member. Ms. Cass has resigned the Nursing seat on UCUI; the Executive Committee of that School recommends Ms. Zenas as her replacement.
Procedural Motion: Debatable, amendable, and eligible for vote.
2. Report from the Commission on University Excellence (Mr. Chipman)
The Commission's report will be distributed to Senators at or within a few days of this meeting. At this time Mr. Chipman will present the salient aspects of the Commission's discussions and findings in order to set a background for reading the report. The Steering Committee will be studying this report for the purpose of making appropriate referrals to committees of the Senate.

D. Information Items:
1. The Steering Committee will receive on October 26 a preliminary report concerning bookstore operation and pricing. When all of the information is available, a report will be made to the Senate.
2. The Meadow Brook "Revisited" seminar sponsored by the School of Economics and Management has been rescheduled from Monday, October 22 to Thursday, October 25. The time remains at 8:00 p.m. and the place remains the Oakland Center Crockery.
