B. New Business:

1. Motion from the Steering Committee concerning a revised University role and mission statement (Mr. Miller).

MOVED that the Senate endorse the revised Oakland University Role and Mission Statement, dated July, 1982.

Comment: Beginning with the proposed role and mission statement drafted by the Committee on Academic Mission and Priorities, and taking cognizance of the suggestions advanced by the Senate in a motion adopted at its meeting of June 3, 1982, the Provost and the President have developed a new role and mission statement for the University. The new statement is attached to and forms a part of this agenda. Also attached, for the convenience of Senators, is a copy of the original CAMP document.

First Reading: Debatable, amendable, but not eligible for final vote at this session.

2. Motion from the Steering Committee concerning the University's role and mission (Mr. Miller).

MOVED that the Senate review the University's role and mission statement every three years and propose revisions or modifications it deems appropriate.

Comment: This will ensure the periodic review of a very important University document.

Procedural Motion: Debatable, amendable, and eligible for vote.
