Hello and welcome to Oakland University’s Michigan Works website.
It’s likely you’re here because today’s troubling economic climate has had a very tangible and very disheartening impact on you. Perhaps you’ve recently lost your job, or fear that you soon will. Or maybe you’ve simply decided it’s time to begin laying the foundation for a more rewarding future. Whatever your circumstances, we’re glad you’re here.
Oakland University is committed to advancing the health and vitality of its community. As such, we’re happy to provide you with the career guidance and educational programs you’ll need to overcome employment challenges in today’s market. As you explore this website and others it links to, you’ll see that administrators, faculty and staff have gone to great lengths to equip displaced workers and returning learners with the knowledge, skills and tools critical to success in virtually any vocation.
In addition, Oakland University staff work tirelessly to make our top-notch career counseling, educational advising, financial aid services and registration procedures not only available, but responsive, expedient and stress free. We’ve also appointed a Michigan Works liaison to focus specifically on the concerns of displaced workers and have rapidly expanded the number of educational programs approved for state grant funding.
If you’re giving thought to enrolling in a certificate or degree program here, consider the fact that Oakland has taken extraordinary measures to keep our high-quality educational services affordable. And to ensure that those services remain relevant, administrators and faculty continuously monitor industry trends and develop programs to prepare students to excel in emerging and in-demand professions.
We know these are difficult times and that making your way through them can be a worrisome prospect. But reassurance comes with the first step forward, and we’re ready to help you take it.
