AGENDA

A. New Business:

1. Steering Committee Election (Mr. Kleckner)

Comment: Article IV, ix of the Constitution of the Oakland University Senate as ratified and amended May 2, 1977, and approved June 2, 1977, governing election of the Steering Committee reads as follows:
ix. The University Senate shall have a Steering Committee composed of the Provost of the University  (or his designee) who shall serve as chairperson and six other Senators elected at the first Senate meeting of the Fall semester. The Committee's term of office shall be two years. No more than two seats shall be held by Senators from any one faculty.

2. Approval of the Constitution of the School of Nursing, approved by the Nursing faculty September 6, 1977 (Ms. Felton)

First Reading- debatable but not eligible for amendment.

Comment:
 1. In the legislation founding the School of Nursing, provision was made for approval of a formal constitution establishing the Organized Faculty of Nursing no later than fall., 1977. Certain students are scheduled to graduate in December 1977: and an Organized Faculty of Nursing is needed to present candidates for the B.S.N. degree. Since the Constitution must go to the Board for final approval, it is necessary that the Senate act no later than the October meeting.
2. In the past school constitutions have been treated as debatable but not amendable. The debate during first reading may lead the sponsor to make corrections and emendations, but the Senate may not itself amend the document a negative note on second reading returns the motion, perhaps with specific instructions to the sponsoring body. a positive vote constitutes approval.

FOR THE INFORMATION OF THE SENATE

1. On June 2, 1977, the Board of Trustees approved the Constitution of the Oakland University Senate as amended and ratified May 2, 1977.

2. The Steering Committee, acting in the name of the University Senate has approved and forwarded to the President the following diploma, graduation and University honors lists:
    Diplomas: April 22, 1977
    Graduates: April 22; June 21 and August 18, 1977
    University Honors: April 22, June 21 and August 18, 1977

3. Schedule of falls 1977, Senate meetings: The meetings are in rooms 128-130O.C. unless otherwise noted, and are from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
