II. Old Business:
1. From the agenda of October 21, 1976, (New Business), Motion I. (Mr. Burke, Ms. Schwartz)
MOVED, THAT THE SENATE ADOPT THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION:
THE UNIVERSITY SENATE RECOMMENDS THAT EACH DEPARTMENTAL EVALUATION OF A FACULTY MEMBER FOR REAPPOINTMENT AND/OR PROMOTION SHOULD INCLUDE AN EVALUATION OF HIS TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS BY A COMMITTEE OF HIS COLLEAGUES, BASED ON CRITERIA ADOPTED PUBLICLY BY THE DEPARTMENT, AND CONTAINING AT LEAST THESE THREE COMPONENTS:
1. A THOROUGH DISCUSSION WITH THE FACULTY MEMBER OF HIS GOALS AND METHODS IN TEACHING;
2. A CAREFULLY ADMINISTERED STUDENT QUESTIONNAIRE FROM EACH OF HIS COURSES:
3. REPORTS OF VISITS TO HIS CLASSES BY AT LEAST TWO COLLEAGUES ON AT LEAST TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS EACH.
McKay, Eberwein motion to amend so as to insert the words TO THE FRPC AND THE CAPS after the word "RECOMMENDS" and before the word 'THAT' in the first line of the motion.
Second Reading: Debatable, amendable and eligible for final vote.
III. New Business
None
FOR THE INFORMATION OF THE SENATE
1. The Athletics Committee on October 29, 1976, adopted the following resolution addressed to the Chair, Steering Committee:
''In view of the students' referendum dated October 26 & 27 which passes our original resolution in this regard, the Athletics Committee resolution (dated April 1976) may now be withdrawn and not forwarded to the Senate."
The Steering Committee accepts this position and plans no further action on the matter.
2. Ms. Eberwein and Mr. Hammerle of the Steering Committee have met with Messrs. Lewis and Saltzman of the Board of Trustees on the GCO and report encouraging progress in establishing the terms of solution. The Senate will be informed.
3. Ms. Hitchingham and Mr. Tower of the Steering Committee have been appointed as a Steering Committee subcommittee to explore Presidential Review Procedures with various faculty constituencies (the basis for which exploration being the review processes approved by the Senate September 17, 1970) and meet with the Board of Trustees counterpart subcommittee to exchange views as to procedures to be followed in the event of a Presidential Review. The Steering Committee hopes to report to the Senate at the December meeting as to progress.
