The Steering Committee has requested brief verbal reports of current activities and future plans from all Standing Committees as follows:

B.  Old Business

1. From the Agenda of November 13, 1975 (New Business), Motion I.:

MOVED THAT THE UNIVERSITY SENATE ENDORSE THE EFFORTS OF THE UNIVERSITY CONGRESS TO ESTABLISH A BAN ON SMOKING IN OAKLAND UNIVERSITY CLASSROOMS AND THAT THE UNIVERSITY SENATE ENDORSE THE PROMULGATION OF SUCH A BAN.

Barron-Hetenyi motion to amend the main motion:

That the period after the terminal "ban" be eliminated and the following be added:

IN THE ABSENCE OF A POLICY ACCEPTABLE T0 ALL INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED IN CLASSROOM ACTIVITY.

Second Reading. Motion to amend and main motion debatable, amendable and eligible for final vote.

2. Motion by Mr. Hetenyi, seconded by Mr. Alt:

THAT THE UNIVERSITY SENATE RECOMMEND TO THE PRESIDENT THE ADOPTION OF THE REPORT FROM THE ACADEMIC STANDING AND HONORS COMMITTEE ENTITLED ACADEMIC PROBATION AND DISMISSAL POLICY FOR UNDERGRADUATES, DATED OCTOBER 20, 1975.

This motion is considered to be in second reading. It is debatable, and eligible for final vote. The motion itself is amendable, but the report in question is not. The instant Committee may accept minor changes to perfect the report, but if the Senate wishes substantial changes, as the Chair shall rule, then a procedural motion to recommit must be introduced and carried, it having priority over the main motion.
