A. Old Business

1. Motion from the Steering Committee (Mr. Obear)

THAT THE UNIVERSITY SENATE APPROVE THE NEW UNIVERSITY GOVERNANCE SYSTEM AS DESCRIBED BY THE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL CONSTITUTION AS AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF OAKLAND UNIVERSITY AND OF THE OAKLAND UNIVERSITY SENATE.

Second reading, eligible for final vote.

Comment: A copy of the current Senate constitution is attached to the agendas of senators for reference purposes.

2. Motion from the Academic Policy Committee (Mr. Feeman)

THAT THE GRADE CONVERSION SCHEME FOR OAKLAND UNIVERSITY NUMERICAL GRADES TO THE COMMONLY USED A, B, C, D SYSTEM SHALL BE

3.5 - 4.0 A
3.0 - 3.4 B
2.0 - 2.9 C
1.0 - 1.9 D

Second reading, eligible for final vote.

Comment: An attachment to this agenda provides a detailed history of grading conversion schemes at Oakland.

B. New Business

Motion from the Steering Committee concerning Admissions Committee membership (Mr. Obear)

THAT ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP BE INCREASED BY TWO FACULTY SEATS, CAUSING THE MEMBERSHIP SPECIFICATIONS TO READ:

SIX FACULTY: FOUR STUDENTS; THE DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS, ex officio AND NON-VOTING; AND THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS (OR HIS DESIGNEE), THE DEAN FOR STUDENT SERVICES, AND THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL AIDS, EACH OF WHOM SHALL BE ex officio AND VOTING.

2. Information Items from the Steering Committee

a. Senate meeting dates for the winter semester

b. The Steering Committee has appointed an ad hoc committee on Constitutional Improvement, charged as follows:

To review the existing Constitution of Oakland University and of the University Senate and to evaluate its consistency with (1) the enabling legislation which established Oakland University as an independent institution, and (2) with internal University documents; particular attention should be directed to the wording of Article I and to those sections of the document which may need revision in light of the existing academic organization of the University (such as Article V, section 9, pertaining to the composition of the Steering Committee).

Membership is Ms. Cross and  Mssrs. Appleton, Hurd, Tomboulian, and Williamson. Mr. Appleton is chairperson.

c. Standing Committee reports for 1972-73 from the Financial Aids Committee and the Research Committee are enclosed with this agenda for the information of the Senate.
