October 14, 1971 Meeting Minutes


Oakland University Senate

October 14, 1971

MINUTES

PRESENT: A quorum
ABSENT: Ms. Tripp and Messrs. Dovaras, Hetenyi and Howes

President O'Dowd called the meeting to order at 3:25 p.m. He named Vice President James R. Appleton, Professor Robert Powell, and Assistant President William Sturner as his appointees to the Senate, and named Professor James E. Davis as Secretary of the Senate. (Since Professor Davis is not a member of the Senate, he is nonvoting.) Mr. O'Dowd also announced that Professor Robert Gaylor has resigned his elected seat in the library delegation and has assumed the Dean's ex-officio seat. Ms. Susan Weibel was elected to Mr. Gaylor's seat. Mr. O'Dowd announced that the University Congress has elected to fill only one of the three seats designated for student senators. Mr. Steve Schultz will occupy that seat for the time being.

A. OLD BUSINESS

None

B. NEW BUSINESS

* la. Mr. McKay moved "THAT MOTIONS B AND C BE APPROVED FOR FINAL VOTE AT THIS MEETING.  Seconded by Dean Seeber. Approved.

* b. Mr. McKay moved "THAT THE FACULTY OF OAKLAND UNIVERSITY NOMINATE FOR THE BACHELOR DEGREE, CONFERRED AS OF AUGUST 13, 1971, THE STUDENTS NAMED ON THE LIST TO BE DISTRIBUTED AT THIS MEETING.  Seconded by Dean Seeber. Approved.

* c. Mr. McKay moved "THAT UNIVERSITY HONORS BE AWARDED TO THE GRADUATING SENIORS NAMED ON THE LIST DISTRIBUTED AT THE MEETING."  Seconded by Mr. Marz.

Mr. Marz asked the traditional Hammerle question as to the lowest grade point averages in each category. Mr. McKay reported that the lowest Summa was 3.91, the lowest Magna was 3.65 and the lowest Cum was 3.46. In each case there was an adequate separation of at least several hundredths of a grade point between categories.

2. The election of the Steering Committee was conducted by Messrs. Burdick, McKay, and Hildum of the Lame-Duck Senate Elections Committee. Elected were Messrs. Cafone, Haskell, Hough, Howes, Tomboulian and Williamson.

Meeting adjourned at 5 p.m.
