Mr. Kleckner, Chairman of the Election Committee, read the following excerpt from the Constitution of Oakland University to be the guidelines for electing the 1969-71 Steering Committee.

The University Senate shall have a Steering Committee composed of the Provost of the University, who shall serve as chairman, and six other senators elected at the first Senate meeting of the fall semester. Clifford Harding, College of Arts and Sciences

General Discussion

Chancellor Varner reported on the progress of the Michigan State University President Search and Selection Committee and discussed briefly his meeting with the State Board of Education regarding Oakland University's role statement .

Mr. Springfield asked why the candidates for the first three positions on the Steering Committee were limited to the Senators representing the three colleges. Mr. Kleckner explained that the Constitution requires that there be one Steering Committee member from each college, therefore, by taking care of this matter first, this procedure assured that this requirement of the Constitution was met.

Chancellor Varner suggested that if the Senators, elected by the Student Body, wanted a change in the voting procedure for electing members of the Senate to the Steering Committee, they could draft an amendment to the Constitution and bring it back to the Senate for consideration.

Mr. Cherno moved that the meeting be adjourned. Seconded by Mr. Heubel.

Approved.

Meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
