MINUTES
PRESENT: Messrs. Beardslee, Brown, M., Butler, Cameron, Collins, Dutton, Hayden, Hetenyi, Hough, Matthews, O'Dowd, Simmons, Stoutenburg, Varner, Tomboulian

Chancellor Varner called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m.
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Hough moved to make eligible for vote today items Ala. b, and c of the agenda. Seconded by Mr. Dutton.
Motion approved.
Mr. Hetenyi moved the recommendation of the committee on Academic, Standing and Baccalaureate Honors "that the potential graduates named on the list distributed by the Registrar be authorized to participate in the Eighth Commencement on Saturday, August 12, 1967." Seconded by Mr. O'Dowd.
Mr. Hough asked if there were any students on the list with less than a 2.0 GPA or less than 124 earned credits. Mr. Atkinson answered that there were none known to him at this time but he pointed out that this may change because all grades would not be available for several more days. He stated further that this motion was not to approve candidates for graduation, but to authorize participation in the Eighth Commencement. The approval of candidates by the Senate for graduation would be decided at a later date.
The motion was then approved.
Mr. Hough moved the recommendation of the committee on Academic Standing and Baccalaureate Honors "that departmental honors be awarded contingent upon the award of the degree in accordance with departmental recommendations contained in the list distributed at this meeting." Seconded by Mr. Simmons.
Mr. Tomboulian questioned the number of recommendations made by the Biology department. Mr. Hough read a memo from Mr. Harding which explained the rationale used in making these recommendations.
The motion was then approved.
Mr. Hough moved the recommendation of the committee on Academic Standing and Baccalaureate Honors, "that University honors be awarded contingent upon the award of the degree to the graduates named in the list distributed at this meeting." Seconded by Mr. Hetenyi.
Mr. Hough explained the procedure used to determine the University honors and indicated the range for each group for this semester. Summa - 4.11 Magna - 3.66 to 3.76 Cum - 3.46 to 3.60.
The motion was then approved.
Mr. Hetenyi moved that any student whose GPA falls within the limits listed above, when their final grades are in, should have their names added to the University honors list. Seconded by Mr. Hough.
Motion approved.
Mr. Stoutenburg outlined the Eighth Commencement program and the procedures to be followed by the faculty.
