NEW BUSINESS
Mr. O'Dowd moved the nominations of the Steering Committee (see attached slate) for membership in the standing committees of the Senate for 1966-67. Seconded by Mr. Booth.
Mr. Williamson moved to amend the nominations to the Library Committee by substituting Mr. Boddy's name for Mr. Hill's name. Seconded by Mr. Gibson. Approved.
The original motion with the amendment was then approved.
Chancellor Varner announced that a preliminary accreditation team will visit Oakland University in January or February to review our graduate program capabilities. It is thought that the accreditation team will be more concerned with our ability to support a graduate program and to achieve our stated objectives than the present development of our graduation program. It is further assumed that the accreditation team's report will be acted upon at the North Central meeting in April.
Mr. O'Dowd described the procedure used by the Steering Committee in compiling the list of speakers for the April 1967 commencement.
The candidates are: Prime Minister I. Gandhi; Robert Kennedy; Isaac Stern; President George Beadle, University of Chicago; Professor Oscar Handlin, Harvard University; President Thomas Hamilton, University of Hawaii; Judge Wade McCree; Professor David Riesman; music critic Harold Schonberg; and chairman Roger Stevens, Arts Endowment.
The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
