To: All Members of the Academic Senate

Re: Agenda for Meeting of October 4, 1966
The next meeting of the Senate will be on Tuesday, October 4, 1966, at 4:00 p.m. in Rooms 128-129 of the Oakland Center.
A. New Business
1. Election of the 1966-67 Steering Committee (Mr. Johnson)
The organizational document of the Senate reads as follows:
The Senate shall have a Steering Committee composed of the Dean of the University and six persons elected by the Senate at its first meeting of the fall semester. Its term of office shall be for one year. Elected members of the committee shall include at least one person from each academic division and at least one person unattached to any academic division.
Although the language of the document is not apposite to the new academic administrative organization, it seems desirable to follow these procedures until the operating rules of the Senate can be amended. The membership of the Election Committee appointed to develop and supervise a procedure for electing the Steering Committee at the first 1966 fall semester meeting is: Mr. Johnson, chairman; Mr. Burke, Mr. Vann, and Mr. Heubel, ex officio.
B. Old Business
1. Report of Spring Semester Senate Activities
On August 10, twelve members of the Senate assembled to give initial approval to a list of candidates for Master's and Bachelor's degrees. In addition, fifteen students were awarded Departmental Honors.
A second meeting of the Senate was held on August 17, with fourteen Senators present and voting. At this meeting two students were nominated for the M.A., two for the M.S., and 89 for the Bachelor's degree. Ten students were accorded University Honors and two students were added to the Departmental Honors list.
