MEMORANDUM
September 24, 1965
TO: All Members of the Senate
FROM: Donald D. O'Dowd, for the Steering Committee
RE: Agenda for Meeting of September 28, 1965
The next meeting of the Senate will be on Tuesday, September 28, 1965, at 4:00 p.m. in room 129 of the Oakland Center.
A. New Business
1. Election of the 1965-66 Steering Committee (Mr. Heubel).
The organizational document of the Senate reads as follows:
The Senate shall have a Steering Committee composed of the Dean of the University and six persons elected by the Senate at its first meeting of the Fall semester. Its term of office shall be for one year. Elected members of the Committee shall include at least one person from each academic division and at least one person unattached to any academic division.
Although the language of the document is not apposite to the new academic administrative organization, it seems desirable to follow these procedures until the operating rules of the Senate can be amended. Traditionally, the Election Committee appointed to supervise the annual Senate election in April develops and supervises a procedure for electing the Steering Committee in September. The membership of the Election Committee includes Mr. Heubel, chairman, Mr. Hammerle, Mr. Schwab, and Mr. Mobley, ex officio.

1. Report of Spring Semester Senate Activities
A group of eleven Senators met on August 18, 1965, to act on behalf of the entire Senate to approve the recommendation of seniors for honors and degrees.
Forty-three seniors were recommended to receive the bachelor's degree. University honors were awarded to five students, and nine students were accorded departmental honors.
