Minutes
PRESENT: Messrs. APPLETON, BEARDSLEE, BRUNO, BURDICK, CHERNO, COLLINS, HADEN, HAMMERLE, HETENYI, HEUBEL, HILDUM, HOLMES, HOOPES, HUCKER. MAHER, MATTHEWS, McKAY, MOBLEY, OBEAR, O'DOWD, POPE, ROOSE, SCHWAB, SIMMONS, SIMONS, STOUTENBURG, STUBBLEFIELD, SUSSKIND, TAFOYA, TOMBOULIAN, VARNER, WHITE, WILDER, WILLIAMSON.
ABSENT: Messrs, CLARKE, GALLOWAY, SEIKEN, SELLS, SWANSON.
GUESTS: Messrs. AMANN and STRAKA.
The meeting was called to order at 3:10 p.m. by Chancellor Vamer.
Chancellor Varner applauded Mr. Collins and the Oakland Chorus for their fine performance with the Detroit Symphony at the Ford Auditorium on February 23rd.
MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Mr. O'Dowd questioned page 2, paragraph 4. He asked if the first sentence of A l.b should not have been added.
Mr. Simons questioned paragraphs 3 and 4 of page 2,
Mr. Varner suggested new minutes should be prepared for the meeting of February 4, 1963, and to be acted upon at the next Senate meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Matthews moved, "Recommendations from the Academic Affairs Committee regarding Curriculum Adjustment." Seconded by Mr. Simons.
Following the second to the motion approximately an hour of preliminary discussion took place.
Mr. Simons moved that the motion be discussed at an open hearing. Seconded by Mr. Stubblefield. Adopted.
OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Matthews moved, "The graduation requirements are those currently in effect. In instances where these impose a hardship, the student may petition the Committee on Instruction for an exception."
Mr. Susskind moved to amend the motion by changing the first sentence to read, "The graduation requirements for each student are those in effect in the year which he becomes a candidate for a degree." No second.
Mr. Tafoya moved to amend the motion by changing the first sentence to read, "The graduation requirements for any given student are those in effect in the year in which he becomes a candidate for a degree." Seconded by Mr. Stubblefield. Adopted.
Mr. Cherno moved to adopt the motion as amended, "The graduation requirements for any given student are those in effect in the year which he becomes a candidate for a degree. In instances where these impose a hardship, the student may petition the Committee on Instruction for an exception." Seconded by Mr. Hucker. Adopted.
Mr. Matthews moved, "In exceptional cases and upon recommendation of the department concerned, the Committee on Instruction may award credit, provided however, that such credit does not exceed 20 percent of the credits earned for a degree at Oakland." Seconded by Mr. Stubblefield. Adopted.
The report of the Steering Committees' activities by Mr. O'Dowd was postponed until the next meeting.
