MEMORANDUM

November 9, 1962

TO: All Members of the Senate

FROM: Donald D. O'Dowd, for the Steering Committee

RE: Agenda for Meeting of November 14

The next meeting of the Senate will be on Wednesday, November 14, at 4:00 p.m. in Room 126-127 Oakland Center.

A. Old Business

1. Consideration of the motion introduced by the Student Affairs Committee at the meeting of October 22.

Students whose average is below 2.0 may not serve as officers or members of committees of student organizations. Such students must also abide by any additional rules that various organizations may make regarding standing required for participation. Each student organization or activity must file with the Dean of Students' Office a statement signed by its faculty adviser indicating its policy on participation by students of low academic standing. 2. Consideration of a motion originating with the Steering Committee and introduced at the meeting of October 22

The following is a substitute motion prepared in the light of the discussion that occurred at the previous meeting.

The chairman of the Senate shall designate a spokesman who may provide an account of the actions of the Senate to student publications at their request. (Mr. O'Dowd)

3. Report on Steering Committee Activities. (Mr. O'Dowd)

a. Motion presented by Mr. Hetenyi at the meeting of October 15 concerning the catalog that will govern a student's graduation has been referred to the Academic Affairs Committee.

b. Creation of an ad hoc committee on comprehensive examination: to study the whole question of comprehensive examinations. This is in accordance with the wishes of the Senate as expressed at the meeting of April 25, 1962.

Membership: Hetenyi (Chairman), and two other faculty members.

c. Creation of an ad hoc committee on the Constitution, Bylaws, and Elections Procedures of the Senate: to study the Constitution, and Elections Procedures of the Senate and to make recommendations for their improvement as well as to propose any Bylaws that may be desirable to expedite the business of the Senate.

Membership: Hoopes (Chairman), and four other faculty members.

B. New Business

1. Nominations for Membership of Standing Committees of the Senate for 1962-63. See the attached slate of nominees. (Mr. O'Dowd)

2. Recommendation from the Steering Committee.

a. All members of the Senate electorate who are not members of the Senate are welcome to attend meetings as visitors. Any other persons may be welcomed as visitors by vote of the Senate. Visitors may not participate in Senate proceedings except by vote of the Senate. (Mr. O'Dowd)
