Subject: Recommendations to be Acted Upon at the Senate Meeting on October 15, 1962
Recommended by the Academic Affairs Committee:
a. Redefinition of I Grade
The I grade may be given only after the thirteenth week in class where a student is unable to complete a course because of severe hardship. An I grade does not become official until approved by the Dean of the University. It is not to be considered a way whereby a student may avoid receiving a failing grade in a course.
b. Requirements for Certification in Major
A student must earn at least a 2.0 average in the courses required for a major. The Registrar will require of the Departments certification that students have successfully completed their majors. No students meeting the stated course and grade requirements for a major may be denied certification without concurrence of the Committee on Instruction.
(This is a redefinition of item 2c of the memorandum to the Senate of April 20, 1962: To be inserted in the Catalog as V under "In order to graduate a student must:" p. 26 of the current Bulletin.)
c. Residence Requirement for Graduation
A student must complete eight courses (32 credits)- at MSUO, at least four of which must be in his major. Four courses must be completed in the two semesters immediately preceding graduation.
d. Definition of Class Standings
Freshman - less than 7 courses completed (0-27 hours)
Sophomore - 7 through 14 courses completed (28-58 hours)
Junior - 15 through 22 courses completed (59-90 hours)
Senior - 23 or more courses completed (above 90 hours)
e. Addition to Withdrawal Policy
The following to be added to statement of Withdrawal policy, p. 15of the current Bulletin;
"If a student withdraws from school after mid-term, the student's instructors, in consultation with the Dean of Students, will assign an "N" or "F" grade in the courses in question.
