Stress Management

Exercise
Your muscles are forced to let go of tension when you become active through sweating, heavier breathing and increased heart rate. All of these physiological effects are a great way to get rid of the stress in the body.

Control Caffeine
For many students, coffee is the fuel that powers those late-night study sessions and gets them out the door for morning classes. But caffeine also can make you anxious and dehydrated. If that’s how you feel, ease up on the caffeine and increase your water intake.

Breathe
Taking deep breaths to relax really does work. Deep breathing automatically modulates internal stress levels, which is why regulated breathing is the basis of many meditation techniques. If you feel overwhelmed, focus on your breathing for a few minutes. It will reduce your anxiety and clear your head.

Build a Calming Environment
Are you frequently exposed to loud music or disturbing or depressing movies, television shows or news programs? Negative influences can push you over the brink when you’re already anxious, so try instead to surround yourself with calm images, activities and sounds. Moderate your media inputs for better emotional health.

Stop Procrastinating
Leaving everything until the last minute just causes stress. Prepare for your classes and tests in advance to reduce your stress levels and schedule ample rest time in between studying.
