The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) offers a variety of academic and social services to all seventh grade students in the Oak Park and Pontiac school districts. Students will receive academic and social programming through their freshman year of college.

Mentor Application
Tutoring
Teachers and Oakland University students provide after-school tutoring for GEAR UP students. In-school tutoring is also available at participating schools
Saturday Academies
Saturday Academies provide academic enrichment programs for student participants throughout the year.
College Visits
During the academic year, GEAR UP students spend a day visiting Oakland University in order to learn about the feasibility of higher education and to meet faculty, staff and students. During the summer, students participate in a residential program on the OU campus.
Peer Mentoring
Peer mentoring is available to GEAR UP students
The Parent Program
The Parent Program provides information about the importance of standardized testing, higher education and academic preparation for college, financial aid and scholarships, career opportunities and other pertinent topics. In addition, parents have the opportunity to serve on the GEAR UP Day Steering Committee.
Staff Professional Development
GEAR UP funds professional development for the faculty and staff of participating schools.
