What to do in the event of an exposure incident: If a laboratory worker is involved in an incident where exposure to bloodborne pathogens may have occurred, the worker should seek medical attention immediately.
1. Wash/Flush Area. If exposure occurs on skin, wash the area for 15 minutes with soap and water.
2. If exposure occurs in eyes or on mucus membranes, flush the area for 15 minutes with water or saline (bottled eyewash).
3. Notify your supervisor, lab manager, and/or EH&S.
4. Seek medical attention immediately.
