Suicide attempts, gestures or threats
A suicide attempt or gesture is any situation in which an individual tries to physically harm him/herself with the intention to kill him/herself. A threat is any situation in which an individual verbalizes his/her intentions to kill him/herself.
Call the Oakland University Police Department (OUPD) immediately. Dial:
- 911 from any campus phone

OUPD will decide the need for medical treatment and arrange for transportation to the nearest medical facility if necessary. OUPD will also contact appropriate campus staff and/or administrators.
Irrational behavior, uncontrollable or destructive behavior, threats to self and/or others
Any situation in which an individual appears out of touch with reality (e.g., disorganized speech, thoughts or behaviors; hallucinations) is considered a threat.

Depressed or unusually agitated individuals
When an individual demonstrates feelings of extreme anxiety, sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness, loss of interest, inconsistent class attendance, decline in hygiene, etc., he or she could be depressed or expressing symptoms of another psychological disturbance.
