Professional Conduct and Code of Ethics for Students/Alumni

Student and Alumni Eligibility

To apply for positions through OUCareerLink and to participate in On-Campus Recruiting you must be either:

· A current Oakland University student

· An Oakland University alumnus

OUCareerLink

As a student/alumni participant in Career Services’ Resume Referral Services (OUCareerLink.com) you are representing Oakland University to all employers. Misrepresentations or inaccuracies concerning your qualifications on your resume or within your OUCareerLink profile are a serious violation of Oakland University’s recruiting standards and could result in your loss of access to all of our placement related services.

Misrepresentation

· Students/alumni are required to present themselves truthfully and ethically to employers, the University, and Career Services. GPA’s, majors/minors, participation in honors programs, and work status must all be represented accurately and truthfully on your OUCareerLink profile and resume. Students/alumni that falsify accomplishments or misrepresent themselves on their profile or resume will be prohibited from further utilizing OUCareerLink.

Resume Submission Guidelines

· Only submit resumes to those employers in whom you are genuinely interested and with whom you intend to interview, if selected. If you are unsure about your interest in an employer and need more information, contact your Career Services Coordinator for assistance.

On-Campus Recruiting

Oakland University Career Services is eager to support you throughout your job search. On-campus recruiting is one tool available to you for conducting a successful job search. You should understand that it is a privilege that carries with it certain expectations for your conduct. We expect you to learn how to use the recruiting software in an effective manner; portray all personal, work experience, and academic information accurately; prepare well for

your interviews; research employer websites to enhance position and company knowledge; respond to employers in a timely, appropriate, and professional fashion; and seek our assistance when appropriate.

As a student/alumni participant in the On-Campus Recruiting Program you are representing Oakland University to all employers. Employers' continued interest in recruiting OU students will be significantly influenced by their experiences during the recruiting season. For this reason the following recruiting guidelines have been established:

  • Candidates should conscientiously and thoroughly prepare for the interview by researching the organization, reviewing the job descriptions and accurately presenting their qualifications.
  • Candidates should sign up for interviews only when they are seriously considering the particular position. Don't use the interview slot for practice. Another student may truly be interested in the opportunity.
  • Candidates who wish to cancel need to be familiar with the On Campus Interviewing/No Show. Please keep in mind that an interview "no show" reflects poorly on OU and may influence the employer's decision to return. Failure to comply with this policy could result in suspension of recruiting privileges for the remainder of the recruiting season.

Failure to comply with the On-Campus Recruiting guidelines could result in suspension of recruiting privileges for the remainder of the recruiting season or beyond.

In-closing

As a student/alum of Oakland University, you are representing OU to the employing community. The image you project will be the one that the organization will apply to your fellow classmates and to the University. Please understand that these guidelines are in place to foster continued positive relationships between Oakland University and employers. We ask that you keep these guidelines in mind to ensure a successful experience for everyone. We wish you all the best in your employment search. Questions? Please contact 248-370-3250.

Thank you for your cooperation and attention to these policies!
