The 5th Annual William Davidson Medical Education Week will be held May 16 – 18, 2016. You are invited to submit a poster abstract on topics in medical education related to the theme “Medical Education: A Look into the Future.” A formal poster session and reception will be held on Wednesday, May 18 immediately following the annual Davidson Lecture at Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak. Certificates will be presented at the beginning of the poster session to the Top 3 posters as judged by the committee.

Eligibility for Submission
Submissions are open to all OUWB and Beaumont affiliates involved in medical education, including faculty, clinicians, staff, students, and residents. At least one author must be affiliated with the OUWB School of Medicine.
Poster Abstract Length
Abstracts are limited to 250 words and must be related to medical education. Please submit your abstract via the online submission form.
Poster abstracts will be reviewed by the poster committee and selected based on clarity, organization, applicability to medical education and innovation.

What is the deadline for submitting a poster abstract?
Abstracts must be submitted no later than Friday, March 4, 2016 at 5:00pm.
Who is eligible to submit a poster abstract?
All OUWB or Beaumont affiliates including faculty, clinicians, staff, residents, and students may submit a poster abstract. At least one author on your poster must be affiliated with the OUWB School of Medicine.

What is the required format for the poster abstract?
Abstracts are limited to 250 words. In addition, each abstract must include all author names and a title. Please include each author’s credentials (ie: PhD, MD, MD Candidate, MS, etc), department affiliation, and status.
Can I submit a poster abstract that I have previously presented at another meeting or conference?
Yes, you may submit an abstract you have previously presented.
Does my abstract need to reflect completed projects or research?
No, you may submit an abstract describing current projects, teaching initiatives and innovations, research in medical education, processes, etc. The topic of the poster must be related to medical education.
Do I need IRB approval to present at Medical Education Week?
You need IRB approval only if your project includes human subjects data. If your project is human subjects research, you need to have IRB approval in time to present your poster if you plan to include data on your poster. If you do not include data and only describe the project and methods, then you do not need the IRB approval.
How will my poster abstract be evaluated?
All poster abstracts will be blinded (all names and identifying information will be removed) and be reviewed by the Medical Education Week Poster Committee using an abstract rubric. The reviewers will evaluate poster abstracts based on the following criteria:
- Originality and innovation
- Organization and clarity
- Relevance to medical education
- Potential for applicability or improvement of medical education practice
When will I be notified if my abstract has been accepted?
You will receive an email no later than March 18, 2016 informing you of acceptance.
Do I need to follow a particular template for creating the posters?
Yes, the template will be provided within the poster acceptance email in March. The template is already sized appropriately to the final size of the poster which is 40” wide by 30” high.
If I presented my poster at another conference do I need to reformat it using the provided medical education week poster?
Yes, you must reformat your poster to the medical education week template.
If my poster abstract is accepted, am I required to attend the poster session on Wednesday, May 18, 2016?
While you are encouraged to attend the poster session, you are not required to attend.
Will I need to print out my poster?
No, the committee will handle all printing logistics. You simply need to send a digital file of your poster to email@example.com
When do I need to submit my digital file for my poster for printing?
Digital poster files are due April 15, 2016 to firstname.lastname@example.org
In what form(s) should I submit my digital poster file?
Please submit your digital file in both PPT and PDF formats.
What is the award for the Top 3 posters this year?
The committee will review and select the Top 3 posters and each author of the Top 3 will be presented with a certificate during the poster reception.
