Jennifer Eastwood, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences, Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine

Dr. Eastwood joined the OUWB faculty in fall of 2011, welcoming the school’s charter class. She teaches medical histology and co-directs the Hematopoeitic-Lymphoid Organ System course. Through both service and scholarly activities, she is engaged in efforts to enhance integration of disciplines and active learning within the curriculum.

Dr. Eastwood completed her graduate work at Indiana University, Bloomington in Anatomy and Cell Biology and Science Education. While at Indiana University, she taught undergraduate human anatomy and histology lab courses, as well as a course on scientific inquiry. Through educational scholarship, she contributed to interdisciplinary human biology and pre-professional physiology courses. After completing her Ph.D., Dr. Eastwood worked as a post-doctoral associate at the University of Florida, where she examined the effects of innovative contexts, such as controversial issues and games, for learning in the biomedical sciences.

Through presentations, publications, and service work, Dr. Eastwood has contributed to organizations committed to improving teaching and learning in the fields of biomedical science and science education. In addition to development of effective practices for teaching anatomy and histology, she is interested in the integration of biomedical science concepts with the social and ethical components of health and disease in the medical curriculum.
