Melphine M. Harriott, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine
Dr. Harriott serves as co-course director of the Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Organ Systems course and assists in integrating Microbiology and Immunology into the M1 and M2 curriculum. Dr. Harriott joined the School of Medicine in 2011. She received a B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from Andrews University and a M.S. in Basic Medical Sciences and a Ph.D. in Immunology and Microbiology from Wayne State University.
Dr. Harriott has a wide range of experience in Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases. She previously worked at Henry Ford Hospital in the Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Translational Research Center, where she mentored infectious disease fellows. Her research focused on fungal-bacterial polymicrobial biofilms. Prior to that, she worked for several years as a medical microbiologist in clinical laboratories. In addition, she taught Medical Microbiology and Immunology to undergraduate Clinical Laboratory Science students. She has been involved in the Immunology and Microbiology course at Wayne State University School of Medicine and has taught Microbiology at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic (and Human) Medicine. Dr. Harriott is passionate about making Medical Microbiology and Immunology clinically relevant to medical students, creating an exciting active-learning environment and using technology to create interactive learning tools.
