These instructions will set up printer sharing between a Windows 7 and Windows XP machine. BOTH machines must be on the same network for the printer to be shared.

On the Windows 7 machine

• Go to Control Panel->All Control Panel Items->Network and Sharing Center->Change advanced sharing settings.

Verify the settings under Advanced Sharing Settings.

Confirm that password protection is turned off in Advance Sharing Settings.

Go to Network in Windows 7 and you should see your XP machine and the Windows 7.

To share the printer on the Windows 7 machine

• Go to Start->Devices and Printers->click on the printer icon->double click “Customize your printer”.

In the Properties screen click the Sharing Tab and check the box to share the printer and type in its share name.

If your XP machine is an x86 OS you can install Additional Drivers before setting up the XP machine.

Go to Network->Windows 7 machine to see the Users folders and devices (you should also see the printer)

• Click the Users folder->Public to see the shared folders.

• Create a folder called XP Printer

On the XP machine Go to My Network Places and find the Windows 7 shared Users folder

• Double-click on the shared folder to see a list of folders in the public folder on Windows 7 (you should see XP Printer folder).

To set up the shared printer on the XP machine

• Go to Start->Printers and Faxes->Add Printer Wizard->Next Select "A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer"->Next
