Windows Live Mail Setup - OU Help Desk

1) Make sure that you have synchronized your password by going to https://netid.oakland.edu/gmailsync/. Unlock your captcha by going to https://www.google.com/accounts/UnlockCaptcha Your username is everything you see before the @oakland.edu For IMAP: Make sure that IMAP is enabled in your webmail settings under the Fowarding and POP/IMAP tab Open Windows Live Mail and select “Add email address” Enter your full email inlcuding the @oakland.edu Enter your password Enter your name as the display name Check the “Manually configure server settings for e-mail account” box
2) Click “Next” Select “IMAP” from the drop down menu Enter imap.gmail.com for the incoming server and 993 as the port Check the “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)” box Enter your full email inlcuding the @oakland.edu for the Login ID Check the “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)” box Check the “My outgoing server requires authentication” box Enter smtp.gmail.com as the outgoing server and 587 as the port
Click “Next” then “Finish”
3) On the next screen click “OK”
4) For POP: Make sure that POP is enabled in your webmail settings under the Fowarding and POP/IMAP tab Open Windows Live Mail and select “Add email address” Enter your full email inlcuding the @oakland.edu Enter your password Enter your name as the display name Check the “Manually configure server settings for e-mail account” box Click “Next”
5) Select “POP3” from the drop down menu Enter pop.gmail.com for the incoming server and 995 as the port Check the “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)” box Enter your full email inlcuding the @oakland.edu for the Login ID Check the “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)” box Check the “My outgoing server requires authentication” box Enter smtp.gmail.com as the outgoing server and 587 as the port Click “Next” then “Finish”
