You must enable IMAP (or POP) in the Webmail powered by Google settings at
http://webmail.oakland.edu/
- Click Settings in the upper-right corner
- Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab
- Click Enable IMAP or Enable POP for all mail
- Click Save Changes
Synchronize your password at https://netid.oakland.edu/gmailsync/
- Enter NetID Username
- Enter NetID Password
- Click Submit
- The password must contain 8 -15 alphanumeric characters, must have at least one number and one alphabet and cannot be the same as your two previous passwords.
Account unlock service - Unlock Captcha at https://www.google.com/accounts/UnlockCaptcha
- Enter your NetID as username
- Enter your NetID password
- Click Submit
Instructions
- Open Microsoft Office 2010
- Click File
- Select Add Account
- Select Account Settings
- enter information for your name, Email address(including @oakland.edu), and netid password
- Select manually configure
- Click next.

- Select Internet Email and click next
- Under User information:
- Verify your name
- Verify Email address(including @oakland.edu)
- Under Server Information
- Select the Account type(IMAP or POP)
- Enter imap.gmail.com or pop.gmail.com
- Enter smtp.gmail.com for Outgoing mail Server(SMTP)
- make sure the User Name: includes @oakland.edu

- Click more settings.....
- Select the Advanced Tab
- Select SSL for type of encryption connection:
- Enter 587 for Outgoing server (SMTP):
- Select TLS for type of encrypted connection:

- Select the Outgoing server tab
- Click My outgoing server(SMTP) requires authentication and click ok

- Click next, then finish
