Job Title: Economic Development Coordinator
Job Description: Spend a day working and learning in the Economic Development field.
The Economic Development Coordinator is responsible for coordination of the City's economic development efforts, with an emphasis on redevelopment. Based on your interests, activities will be structured to potentially include
- Retention visits with major businesses in coordination with the State of Michigan and Oakland County Economic Development Team
- Providing review input on rezoning, site plans, special approvals and other land use changes
- Touring and inspection of major commercial sites and industrial districts
- Touring of City Facilities and Departments, i.e. Police, Fire, Treasury, DPS, Recreation, etc.
- Outreach with area brokers and real estate development firms, property owners, business owners, or community groups to coordinate and enhance business relations, recruitment and retention efforts
- Administration of Downtown Development Authority projects or potential Brownfield Redevelopment projects
- Planning programs to improve the economic base of the community, create employment opportunities, reduce commercial and industrial vacancies and improve/maintain a viable mix of businesses
- An overview of the Economic Development Financial Toolbox
The day will be flexible to include other activities based on the applicant's interest and career goals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Expectations:
- Pursuing a degree with concentration in political science, public administration, business or related field.
- Passion to pursue a career in local government/ economic development/ entrepreneurship.
- Proven written, oral, analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Must pass a police background check.
- Must dress in professional attire.
