Political Science Department Alumni Advisory Board
About the Event
The Political Science Department has a group of dedicated alumni who serve on an Advisory Board and they are very keen on staying active with the Department and its students. For several years they have offered a career day event during the Winter term that provided advice and information on navigating today's job market.
This year, we have developed a different kind of event. Instead of the Board coming to campus as they have in the past for a panel discussion, you will have the opportunity to go to the Board.
We are calling this year's event "Get Hired for a Day." Students in our department will have the opportunity to spend time with a board member networking and learning about navigating the job market and today's work world. This program is designed to connect you with someone in a field you may be interested in pursuing after you finish school, and to help you uncover important information about getting hired once you graduate.
How to Apply
On this page, you will find links to several "job postings" for you to "apply" for based on different opportunities connected to PS, PA, and IR.
If you are interested in participating, take a look at the "job postings" and submit a cover letter and resume. (You may do this for a maximum for two "job postings.")
Make sure to include your cover letter and resume as attachments to your email if the "job posting" lists these documents as a requirement. Applications should be submitted in March, as Board members expect to pair with students during the month of April.
Applicant Selection
The Board members associated with each posting will review each "application" and likely conduct a phone interview with you. (This process is great practice for what you will have to do when applying for "real" jobs.)
Once selected, you will work out a day with the Board member that is mutually convenient for you (they will take into account class times and other commitments you have) to spend with them learning about what they do in their positions, networking, and gaining valuable insights into how to navigate the job market.
The students selected to participate in the "Get Hired for a Day" event will be invited to join members of the Board and department faculty for a dinner in May.
