OU Homecoming 2013
The SEHS held a successful open house as part of the University's Homecoming weekend on January 25-26. Alumni from counseling, curriculum, early childhood, secondary education, reading, and teacher development and educational studies attended the open house, which was held in the Educational Resource Lab from 11:00am – 1:00pm.
Alumni and their guests met faculty and staff from the departments of Human Development and Child Studies, Human Resource Development, Educational Leadership, Teacher Development and Educational Studies, the SEHS Counseling Center, Professional Development and the Dean's Office.
Alumni had the opportunity to reminisce with faculty from many departments, not just their own. One alumna had not been back to campus since her graduation in the 1990s!
Many thanks to Dana Agrusa, Dan Arnold, Jim Cipielewski, Ron Cramer, Shelly Garretson, Tom Giberson, Suzanne Klein, Tim Larrabee, Carolyn O'Mahony, Chaunda Scott, Carol Swift, Avni Thomas, and David Tindall for taking time out of their Saturday to make the SEHS Open House a success.

OUCARES Expands Program Offerings at Meadows School
Oakland University's Center for Autism Research, Education and Support (OUCARES) opened a second location in January. OUCARES will now be able to provide its highly regarded quality of life programs at Meadows School, located at 1435 West Auburn Road in Rochester Hills.
OUCARES launched their adult volleyball program at Meadows in January. The volleyball program was the idea
of an adult who attends OUCARES monthly Adult
Socials. He put a proposal together and submitted it to OUCARES for consideration. Having access to the gym at Meadows provided a perfect opportunity to launch the new program. Many thanks to the OU Volleyball team, Associate Professor
Erica Ruegg, Program Coordinator Kristin Rohrbeck, and everyone else that helped make this program a reality.

HDCS/OUCARES Pontiac High School Autism Work Study
This past September, students from the Pontiac High School Autism Program began a Work Study Program with Oakland University's Department of Human Development and Child Studies and OUCARES. Dr. Jan Graetz, Associate Professor in Special Education, and Ms. Tonia Lee, Autism teacher for Pontiac High School, initiated a work study program for three students living with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The students arrive at OU by bus on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, greet faculty and staff, and then go to work in Room 190 and throughout Pawley Hall. It is important for the students to be in an inclusive atmosphere that provides opportunities for socialization and communication, while promoting skills needed for future work and social environments. Since the fall, these three students have collated binders, cleaned toys from OUCARES Autism Camp, sanded a table, created holiday decorations, and sold the decorations in Pawley Hall.
The students have created Valentine's Day candy treats, which will be available on the morning of February 12th at the entrance to Pawley Hall. Please take a moment to stop by and meet the students. Donations are very much appreciated.
Monies generated from the Valentine's candy sale are shared with the Pontiac High School Autism Program and OUCARES. If you see these students in the building, please introduce yourself and welcome them to OU!
