Alpha Iota Sigma Membership

Founded in 2012, the Alpha Iota Sigma honor society already includes representatives from nearly a dozen institutions. Our members have the opportunity to be recognized for their outstanding scholarly achievements, community engagement, and leadership in solving complex problems.  

As a member of the International Interdisciplinary Honor Society, Alpha Iota Sigma chapters:

  • apply to and are approved by the National Council
  • are institutional members of the Association for Interdisciplinary Studies
  • meet the criteria of the currently approved bylaws of Alpha Iota Sigma

Alpha Iota Sigma chapters receive:

  • institutional recognition by the International Interdisciplinary Honor Society
  • a vote in the National Council
  • logistical support for managing membership and leadership issues
  • international commencement recognition for qualifying student members

As a member of Alpha Iota Sigma, student members:

  • are enrolled in an Alpha Iota Sigma Member college or university
  • are majoring in an interdisciplinary program as noted in the chapter requirements
  • hold a GPA of 3.3 or higher depending on the local chapter requirements
  • present to the National Council two letters of recommendation with at least once from a faculty member teaching in the interdisciplinary studies curriculum
  • may have additional requirements based on the local chapter requirements

 

Alpha Iota Sigma student members receive:

  • Cords for Graduation
  • A great honor and resume builder
  • Affiliation with  international organization of interdisciplinary scholars and students
  • Opportunities to get involved with your college or university
  • Opportunities to get involved with the Association for Interdisciplinary Studies
  • Opportunities to submit  student research proposals for consideration in the annual Association for Interdisciplinary Studies conference
  • Opportunities to connect with other interdisciplinary scholars and students

Alternately, you can pay membership dues online using MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, or PayPal accounts.

To arrange to pay by credit card, just choose the type of membership you want (regular/individual, institutional, library, or student). After selecting the membership rate, click on the "Pay Now" button to complete your payment. At this time, payments can be made only one at a time.  Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please note: AIS members do not need a PayPal account to pay their dues by credit card. If you have a valid MasterCard, Visa, American Express, or Discover credit card and wish to pay your membership dues using one of those, just click on "Don't have a PayPal account?" at the bottom of the next page, and you will access a PayPal page on which you may supply your credit card information. You may also encounter a pop-up invitation to "Create a PayPal account," but you can then opt out by clicking "No Thanks."

Please be aware that if your credit card is ever rejected during the online transaction, PayPal is simply relaying information from the institution that issued the credit card. We recommend that you should then contact the financial institution that issued the credit card.
