COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Historical Geology is the study of the history of the physical Earth and the life upon it.  A primary focus of this course will be teh dynamic Earth, the evolution of its terrain, and the origins an evolution of life. The study of rocks (petrology) and minerals (mineralogy) will be considered in the context of the rock cycle.  Fossil and sedimentation will be considered as evidence of ancient ecosystems and life forms.  We will also study the evolution of the physical landforms and continents in context of the theory of plate tectonics.  Students will learn concepts in mineralology and petrology through
hands-on rock and mineral lab activities.
