Some of us still believe in establishing New Year's resolutions! The Dean's Office has set a goal for 2013 to strengthen our community/collegial bonds.
Last year, with the assistance of a generous donor, we renovated the
existing mailroom into a collaborative space for our faculty and staff. This year,
we are sponsoring a variety of events that we hope will attract more of
you to campus and in turn, contribute to a more collegial space. As a
result of this resolution, we are instituting an internal newsletter
that will inform every one of these impending events. We hope that you
will place the events on your calendar so that you can plan to attend in
advance.
As a tickler--we have scheduled visits and lectures
from a New York Times best-selling author; two scholars from the
Universities of Notre Dame and Georgia, who will discuss issues of race,
gender, religion, sexuality and hip-hop culture that may be termed from
Giroux's postmodern lexicon as "boundary crossing"; two national experts
on issues of Autism and a statewide summit in March that will plant our
flag as a state leader. Our annual SOGI conference will be
yet another marker in SEHS establishing a "beachhead" for these issues now
and in the future. We will continue to feature our own scholarship at
our semester-wide research forums.
Please notify your Department
Chair of any significant event, publication or announcement that
you believe may be worthy of special note for this newsletter. Major
changes are in store for this University with the appointment of a new
Provost, a new Capital Campaign and our quest for a new Carnegie
classification. Please plan to attend the next Assembly meeting to hear
more details.
Again, thanks for partnering with us to make this a benchmark year for SEHS and Oakland University.
Together,
Louis |
