Campus Safety Services
Even though Oakland University is one of the safest campuses in the state, students should always be alert, walk with friends and use the following services when needed:
|
|
Brightway Paths
Campus brightway paths are designated areas through central campus that provide intense lighting, offering students the best path to take after dark. These paths are patrolled frequently by OU police officers. Well-lighted parking also is available throughout campus.
Emergency Phones
Blue-light emergency phones (pictured to the right) are located at strategic spots around campus. When activated, the phones connect callers directly to an OU police dispatcher. Officer response time is often as fast as 90 seconds.
Escorts
Cadets are available to escort students to buildings and their vehicles upon request. To request an escort, contact the OU Police Department at (248) 370-3331.
OU Police Department
OU’s on-campus police department, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is made up of professional law enforcement personnel committed to providing a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. University officers are police academy trained and receive many hours of post-academy training, both in-house and at regional criminal justice centers.
OU police officers patrol campus buildings and sidewalks on foot. They also patrol the roadways and parking lots in patrol vehicles and on bicycles.
In the event of a police, fire, medical or other emergency, dial 911 from any campus phone, except pay phones, to reach the OU Police Department. Dial (248) 370-3333 from cell phones.
