Oakland University named Michigan’s Healthiest Employers in Metro Detroit 1,550-4,999 employees category.  With an attempt to control the rising cost of health care, employers are now seeking to provide wellness programs for their employees as a means to reduce costs and improve overall health.  

Culture and leadership, strategic planning, communication and marketing, programming and intervention, and reporting and analysis were components analyzed that distinguished Oakland University as one of Michigan’s Healthiest Employers.

Oakland University, Fit-Friend Worksite Gold Level

In March, Oakland University  was recognized as a Gold Level Recipient of the American Heart Association’s Fit-Friendly Worksites Recognition program. 

The Fit-Friendly Worksites program is a catalyst for positive change. Worksites throughout the nation can be part of the initiative by making the health and wellness of their employees a priority. Oakland University was recognized as a Gold Level Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life. initiative for:

• Offering employees physical activity support.
• Increasing healthy eating options at the worksite.
• Promoting a wellness culture.
• Implementing at least nine criteria as outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture. 

We are honored and excited to be recognized by the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life. initiative as a Gold Level Fit-Friendly Worksite. Employee health and wellness are top priorities at OU and we encourage everyone to embrace the healthy campus culture we strive for everyday.
