1.  Election of the Senate Steering Committee Member (1 member for 2012-2013 – Senate Elections Committee)

The  Senate needs to fill one vacancy on the Senate Steering Committee for Fall 2012 and Winter 2013.  The only limitation on electability of senators to this committee is that no more than two may be elected from any one organized faculty.  This position is open to senators from any of the organized faculty.  The Steering Committee normally meets twice a month on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00) to set the Senate agenda, refer business to Senate committees and receive reports from those bodies and advise the Senate on governance issues; it may also meet occasionally during the summer.

If you wish to nominate someone, please establish in advance that the person is willing to serve and is available at the normal meeting times for the Steering Committee.  A list of Senate members is available on the Senate webpage.

Current membership of the Steering Committee includes:  Henry Aigbedo (SBA), Mark Doman (SEHS), Andrea Eis (CAS), Mike Latcha (SECS), Kris Thompson (SHS)

3.  Motion from the Teaching and Learning Committee to change the term of membership and membership:  (Ms. Thompson, Mr. Doman)

MOVED that the term of membership on the Teaching and Learning Committee be increased from 2 years to 3 years and the membership from: “Six faculty; four students; two administrative professionals; and the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost (or designee), ex-officio and non-voting,” to “Nine faculty….”

First Reading:  Amendable, debatable and not eligible for final vote at this meeting.

4.  Motion from UCUI to remove the oversight of the ethnic diversity requirement from the committee charge:  (Mr. Doman, Ms. Thompson)

MOVED that item 9 of the UCUI charge requiring the committee “To construct the list of courses designed to meet the university wide ethnic diversity requirement from among those courses submitted for this purpose by the academic units and to maintain and update this list.  Nothing in this provision is intended to authorize or permit UCUI or Oakland University to require courses or parts of courses to have a certain ideological framework or any other framework of interpretation as a condition for satisfying the ethnic diversity requirement,” be removed.

First Reading:  Amendable, debatable and not eligible for final vote at this meeting.
