Work in the area of identification, estimation and control of distributed
parameter systems, that is systems described by partial differential
equations or delay equations. These systems are often called infinite
dimensional, since the state space is infinite dimensional. Interests are in sensor and actuator placement
and the control and measurement of
hyperbolic systems and thermoelastic systems. He has also worked
extensively on transportation systems, and particularly in optimization
and signaling for light rail and subway systems. He has also carried out
research on the parametric approach to robust control and on socio-
economic systems including hydro-electric scheduling and consumption -pollution models. .
