Questions and answers from Intro Workshop:
  • Can you make the screen brighter/darker?
    • Go to Settings → Brightness & Wallpaper → Slide the Bar to the right to make the screen brighter and to the left to make it less bright.
    • There is also a Brightness slider on the left end of the Fast App Switcher Dock that comes up when you double-click the Home button.
  • Can you lock the orientation to either vertical or horizontal?
    • Double-click the Home button to get to the Fast App Switcher Dock, slide to the left end and there is an icon to clock or unlock screen rotation.
  • How do you shut it off completely- not just put it to sleep?
    • Hold down the button at the top right corner of the iPad until you get a slider that says “slide to power off”. Slide the red arrow to the right. Clicking the same button puts the iPad to sleep but does not turn it off.
  • Can you extend the time before it puts itself into sleep mode?
    • Settings → General → Auto-Lock → Select the time that you want it to wait before sleep
    • Use the same path and click on Passcode Lock to set a code so that only you can use the device.
  • How do you change the language/country for speech or for the calendar?
    • Settings → General → International → Select Language, Keyboards, Region Format and Calendar
  • How do you select one specific email account to be your default for sending mail from your iPad?
    • Settings → Mail, Contacts, Calendars → Default Account
  • How can you go back to correct typos?
    • Press the screen in the area of the typo with the tip of your finger until the magnifier comes up and move it to just after the typo. Backspace to remove and correct the problem.
  • How do you move apps and icons from one screen to another – rearrange them so that most frequently used will be on your home screen?
    • Touch and hold and app until little x’s show up in the corners of the app icons. Drag and drop to any new position. If you find it difficult to move them from one screen to another, you can drop them on the dock at the bottom of the screen, slide to the new screen and drag and drop from the dock.
    • Tap the Home button to get out of app edit mode.
  • What do four and five-finger gestures do?
    • Swiping in with all five fingers closes the current app and returns the view to the current app screen.
    • Swiping to the left with four fingers moves the screen back to the last used app. Swiping up with four fingers opens the Fast App Switcher Dock.
  • What is the procedure for checking out the ERL iPad carts for classroom use?
